WhatsApp announced the introduction of end-to-end encrypted backup data feature in September 2021.
Now the company has started providing this facility to the customers from October 14.
Previously, user data on the WhatsApp that was uploaded to the online cloud service as a backup was not encrypted.
Facebook, which owns the WhatsApp, has announced that it has begun introducing end-to-end encrypted chat backups for iOS and Android users.
This feature will be gradually available to users which will be optional ie user will have to go to settings and disable it.
How to enable when feature is available?
For this purpose, open the WhatsApp on iOS or Android device.
After opening go to settings menu.
Chats then go to Chat Backup where there will be an end to end encrypted backup option (if the feature is available to you).
Select End to End Encrypted Backup and enter the password or key of your choice according to the instructions that appear.
Then press the Done button and that's it.
If you want to disable it, you can turn it off by clicking on end to end encrypted backup according to the car, for which you have to enter the default password.
According to the company, for end-to-end encrypted backup, it has developed a new encryption key storage system that will work on both iOS and Android.
Under this encryption system, chat is backed up by encryption and users can save it manually or password protect it.
When an account user needs access to a backup, they will be able to access it via an encryption key or access their encryption key from their wallet using their password.
However, if the user forgets the password or the 64-digit key, then access to this data will not be possible.
